This journal, written by Newman Collins in 1887-1890 during visits to Port Republic,  is being transcribed and will eventually appear here with entries arranged in posts according to dates in the journal.  Misspellings, capitalizations, strikeouts and overwrites from the original are being preserved. Explanatory comments will be either in footnotes or between square brackets in boldface.  Come back for more entries and additional explanatory comments.
